VISUALIZING GENDER in Communication Campaigns

On April 8 2025, The Department of Social and Political Sciences and the Genders Research Centre of the University of Milan will host Visualizing Gender in Communication Campaigns.
The event has been organized by Professor Giorgia Aiello (University of Milan) and Professor Marta Severo (University of Paris Nanterre) and shall explore the intersection of gender, visual representation, and professional practice.
The initiative builds on the research-creation process behind the De l’archive à l’affiche exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Master’s program in Information and Communication at the University of Paris Nanterre, the graduate school ArTec (Arts, Technologies, Mediations) and La Contemporaine.

As part of the project, students are called to undertake a deep theoretical journey and reinterpret historical posters on gender and feminist struggles, creating new visuals addressing today’s gender issues through digital design, collage, and illustration techniques.
The event will feature two parts:

1) a panel discussion with professionals in visual communication and gender studies, and
2) a poster contest involving students from Paris Nanterre and Milan.

A dual jury—composed of experts and fellow students—will evaluate the works, encouraging cross-cultural exchange and reflection on the power of visual media in shaping gender narratives.

The event is open to all, and will take place in the room “Sala Lauree” of the Department of Social and Political Sciences, located in via Conservatorio 7, starting at 13.30 (and supposedly ending by 17.30).
Students from the Laurea Magistrale in Comunicazione Pubblica e d’Impresa (COM) can apply to actively partecipate and obtain 3 CFU (only 20 places available for this opportunity).

WE’LL SEE YOU THERE!
